FEDMAP Project Summary
Front Range Infrastructure Resources Project
The project focused on natural aggregate, energy, water, and land-use resources of the region extending from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Pueblo, Colorado, between the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains. It is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country, and sand, gravel, and crushed stone are critical to continued urbanization. The project compiled and digitized existing geologic data; collected, interpreted and mapped areas where new data were needed; developed model relating to aggregate availability to land use and environmental impacts of aggregate extraction, and integrated geologic data with other components of this initiative.
