FEDMAP Project Summary
Central Region State/USGS Cooperative Geologic Mapping: Western Colorado I-70 Corridor
This project provided multipurpose digital 1:24,000-scale geologic maps along the rapidly growing population of the I-70 corridor from the Continental Divide to west of Grand Junction. Numerous mountain range scale landslides, geologically induced salt dissolution and related collapse and unstable surficial units create geologic hazards and environmental problems. This salt influx into the Colorado River has become an international issue at the Mexican border.
